Dolichandra unguis-cati is a fast-growing woody climbing vine, not a tree. Mature vines can climb approximately 10–20 meters or more by growing over trees, walls, fences and other structures. It has opposite leaves usually composed of two leaflets, with a distinctive three-pronged, claw-like tendril between them. It produces attractive bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers, which are one of its easiest identifying features.It is sometimes grown as an ornamental climber because of its showy yellow flowers and ability to cover walls, fences and pergolas.
